Ana de Armas Shines in Final Ballerina Footage
John Wick might be done, but one of its beloved spin-offs is on its way. From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas, will be back in action this summer, as the last stretch of trailers has shown.
Set for a June 6, 2025, release, the John Wick spin-off is still three weeks away from hitting theaters, but Lionsgate has just shared the final trailer for the upcoming film. The 90-second preview continues the slow build to Ballerina’s theatrical release, delivering a nice sampling of the bloody action, stylized choreography, and popcorn drama fans have come to expect from this film series.
Ana de Armas plays Eve Macarro, one of the director’s most promising students. A young and talented ballerina, Eve is also a skilled assassin and ruthless killer. In Ballerina, she must track down and eliminate the people who murdered her father. A quick scene in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum showed Eve’s younger self (played by Unity Phelan) practicing her ballet skills on a theater stage. Ballerina picks up the story from there, with Eve as the main character and Ana de Armas in the lead role.
What is more, fans will recognize a few more faces in Ballerina alongside Ana de Armas. Along with Huston and McShane, late actor Lance Reddick is also back in the role of Charon, the Continental’s helpful concierge. The actor passed away in March 2023, and fans will have the chance to see him one last time in the new John Wick spin-off.
In the first trailer for From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, audiences got a much-needed look at Ana de Armas’s role in the upcoming movie. In a shocking and violent twist, a young woman, played by de Armas, was forced to become a ballet assassin by the enigmatic Director (Huston).
Ana de Armas as Eve Macarro meets Reeves’s John Wick in the latest Ballerina trailer.
In this sneak peek, Ana de Armas finally has some FaceTime with John Wick, played by Keanu Reeves. Their confrontation is brief, with Wick noting that it looks like Eve might be “special” and that the two of them have something in common, given the circumstances of their meeting. The shadowy character also exudes his typical Wick gravitas as he stalks through the wintry cemetery.
The Third and Final Trailer Takes Aim at Vengeance
The most recent trailer from Lionsgate has wasted no time in jumping into the action. The video features a short montage of Ana de Armas and Keanu Reeves’s John Wick fighting as they pursue the same unnamed villain. As the trailer’s opening shot features Eve in the line of Wick’s gunsight, audiences expect a clear showdown between them, yet the trailer shifts focus.
Ana de Armas is at the center of the most recent trailer as she guns down a stream of enemies on her way to reach the film’s main antagonist. The last 90-second video shows a kinetic cross-section of the action fans have been promised in the coming movie as de Armas’s character’s story is further fleshed out.
De Armas and the rest of the cast get to shine in this explosive preview for Ballerina, which also confirms the enemies’ motivations and goals. In one scene, Ana de Armas is clearly showing off her skills as she single-handedly takes down group after group. We also get to see the usual slick choreography and pacing that fans of the John Wick franchise have come to expect.
The trailer also features a line from the Ballerina that will have fans rapt, “This isn’t done until they’re dead,”. It further hints at the goal of Ana de Armas’s character and possibly other, unnamed antagonists in the film. Revenge, and the ability to exact it, is another key to this action-packed story. In short, there’s a lot to be pumped up for in Ana de Armas’ director-led new John Wick movie, Ballerina.
This time, though, the spotlight is on a fierce female lead character as the movie begins to explore her backstory and the driving force of the movie. The film is set in the same world as its predecessors, but this time, the action and drama focus on an exciting new face.
The John Wickverse Is Getting Larger With Ballerina
Ballerina brings something new to the table for John Wick fans. Keanu Reeves’ John Wick is still in the movie, but doesn’t overpower or outshine the women characters. It also gives Ana de Armas the chance to be the centerpiece of this film.
It also expands the universe in a way that most of its previous spin-offs have not. The World of John Wick movies: chapters 1-4, Parabellum, 2:47, and that one confusing Charlie’s Angel retelling of the original feature film.
Ana de Armas, the newest in the John Wick film series, showcases a similar style to the other recent movies. Ballerina’s tight choreography, slick effects, and diverse settings continue to play a crucial role. The third trailer also has another unique feature in that it hints that we are in for a mix of stories. In short, the film will not be strictly about one main character but might focus on the backstories of several. In this case, we have Ana de Armas’ Eve and Keanu Reeves’ John Wick.
Overall, Ballerina looks like another stellar performance by Lionsgate. Ana de Armas has the potential to reach the same heights as Keanu Reeves’ John Wick and could eventually take the franchise in new and interesting directions. Fans will only have to wait until June 2025 to learn more.
